Redwing provide ECoW and EnvCoW services, ecology surveys and data, and advice to clients on large and small construction sites for renewables and grid projects and in the conservation sector. We are a passionate team dedicated to helping nature and the environment with extensive commercial and scientific backgrounds.
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic person to work as an ECoW/EnvCoW and also to guide and mentor other ECoWs within the Redwing team on sites across the Highlands and Islands.
You will oversee environmental compliance on construction/development projects on behalf of our clients, including construction companies and developers. You will be responsible for conducting site inspections, advising on compliance with environmental and planning regulations, and recommending best practice measures to mitigate any adverse effects on species and habitats.
You will act as a liaison between construction teams and environmental stakeholders, advocating for the protection and preservation of natural resources throughout the project lifecycle.
You will be capable of managing ECoWs on other sites
There will also be opportunities for training and to be involved in ecological surveys of birds, habitats, bats and other protected species.
The role will include:
Undertaking pre-construction baseline surveys
Undertaking site inspections/audits to monitor compliance with CEMPs and planning conditions
Reporting on compliance with consent conditions
Liaising with Environmental Managers and statutory regulators on behalf of clients
Providing guidance and practical advice on site to contractors and the client during construction
Production of weekly ECoW reports/logs and input to monthly planning reports
Ecology Surveys, including protected species and habitats
Data entry (Excel/Coreo/Avenza) and digitisation (QGIS)
Supporting and managing other ECoWs across multiple sites
Preparing for and managing project specific risk assessments and methods statements including RAMS documents
The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:
Strong interpersonal skills and a flexible and proactive approach to work
Minimum 3 years’ experience of undertaking ECoW roles
Valid UK driving licence
Willingness to travel and work away from home
Willingness to support other disciplines within Redwing (such as ecology, water quality monitoring and peatland surveys) when required
Strong IT skills including, MS Word and Excel
Degree or equivalent experience in a construction or environmental field (Ecology, Zoology, Environmental Management) is desirable, but not essential
Some experience of ecology field surveys is desirable, but not essential
Benefits
Salary: £35,000 - £45,000
Annual Leave: 30 days pro rata

Typical work hours are 40 hours over 5 days including weekends on infrequent occasions, however we are happy to discuss flexible work options.
